Selection & Installation

The correct size of the incinerator purchased is the most important consideration. How much waste will you have?

Table 1 gives an indication of what you can expect per day in new buildings. Weigh the daily waste in existing buildings, work out the amount of waste which has to be incinerated per hour.

Different materials burn at different rates. For example 1 kg of animal carcass burns slower than paper or general refuse. In fact it requires the same incineration capacity as 1,66 kg of general refuse. This is called THE GENERAL REFUSE EQUIVALENT of animal carcass.

Table 2 gives a list of General Refuse Equivalent values for various wastes this is because hospital waste is more difficult to burn than paper waste. We take the amount in kgs to be burnt x G. R. E. divided by the number of hours the incinerator will burn. We use 7 hours that is one shift 8 hours less one hour for cleaning in the morning. The small incinerators 30LA and 50LA should only burn for 4 hours.

Table 3 gives the capacities of our incinerators in kg per hour of general waste, the incinerator dimensions and capacity data, including the chimney dimension and room sizes.

Table 1, Table 2 and Table 3 will enable you to estimate the correct size incinerator and allow space for its installation. When you ask S.A. Incinerator Co. (Pty) Ltd for the quotation for the supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of the incinerator, they will check that your sizing is correct.
